Los Angeles is the second largest American city. With a population of close to four million people in an area of close to 500 sq. miles, there are close to 114 neighborhoods. It is difficult to explain over a hundred neighborhoods in detail and hence, a broader division is required. Such a division is provided below with a view to describe all neighborhoods in a proper manner. Some of the most prominent and broader neighborhoods are explained below.
Eastern and North Eastern Areas
Both of these neighborhoods were created from Rolling Hills and are mostly residential. Professionals prefer University Hills as an escape from their hectic schedule. Highland Park is among the oldest areas and is home to many craftsman styled homes.
Downtown Los Angeles
This area encompasses a little less than 6sq. miles with numerous skyscrapers and an active art community to go along with. This area releases the inner creative spirit in a person to enjoy the beauty found in the streets.
The Greater Hollywood Area
This is one of the most famous areas in the world as this is where one can see the ever prominent Hollywood sign. This comprises of the Melrose district where shopping and fine dining is available. One can find good dishes from most cuisines in this area. People who prefer an ethnic flavor can go over to Little Armenia, the home for Armenian culture and food.
The Harbor Area
A number of port neighborhoods make up the Harbor Area Neighborhoods. One example is San Pedro. Important tourist attractions are Point Ferman Lighthouse and Wilmington. The Point Ferman Lighthouse is a museum while Wilmington is an industrial area and is now used in numerous motion pictures.
Los Feliz and Silver Lake Areas
Two of the largest parks namely the Griffith Park and the Elysian Park are present in these areas. These areas are quite historical as one can find home from as old as 1890 in very good conditions.

West Los Angeles Area
West Los Angeles is home to the entertainment industry and the wealthy. Bel Air and Beverley Hills are located in this area along with many major studios.
